74 years ago today, the Vought F4U Corsair took flight for the first time. This fighter went onto great success as a land-based and carrier-based aircraft in WWII. During this time, it tallied an 11:1 kill ratio in air combat. Besides excellent air to air capabilities, the Corsair provided dependable close air support to troops fighting in the Pacific. The Corsair also saw service with US Armed Forces into the Korean War.
